Off season preparations
As pre-season camp looks to open in sunny southern California in June, one cant help but count down until opening day in Los Angeles, waiting to hear the sound of the rubber smacking against the face of the opposition, or see the "big man" move like he's as light as a feather. I bet you wonder what the old Mulisha boys are doing now that they have departed while you sit here and wait for the triumphant comeback of "the Guardian". Reminiscing of the old Mulisha glory days, Faas and Byrne still keep close ties in their off season homes in Temecula California in front of wide screen LCD TVs playing grueling matches of Soul caliber, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Gears of war 2, and even Left For Dead. "It is the best way for us to sit back relax and remember what once was" says Byrne, "the games bring back the momories of us two working together to beat down the opposition." Although these two, once one force on the court, may never touch the hardwood side by side again, they still keep up their old training ways together. "Jerry has me studying films, taking hill runs with him, lifting, eating the proper nutrition, and practicing still every day almost. Its good to know he still cares even though he's not out there anymore. I feel like he'll always be that 7th man on the court" said Faas. "Well what of Bernad?" you ask. "We still hear from him and see him from time to time, about once a month or so. He's living the beach style life now and rarely has time between sets to come home. We try to make the most of it when he gets here though since we know it will be a long while until we see 'Salsa Fresca' again" tells Byrne. The boys stay pretty tight in the off season even now that their roster has taken separate journeys in life, and it's an ever evident sign of how the boys all seemed to have such good chemistry in the game they once played together.

Temecula's Pro Dodgeball Team's latest update
Today was a bitter sweet point in the Mulisha community. Bernad, founder and long time team captain, announced his resignation from the beloved past time. "I feel like its time for me to hang it up. There's a time when you know you can't play at the top level anymore and recently I've come to realize it." Bernad finished with a career 42 kills and 4 catches. "I mean in no way was he our top player, but he did have the great locker room presence every captain needs to possess. That's what made him a great leader," said 3 time All World MVP Jerry Byrne. Bernad will be finishing up his college degree in hopes of becoming a 7th grade P.E. teacher where he can help introduce the fundamentals of the game to aspiring future players of the game.
Rubber Mulisha V.P. John Goldstein today announced that the Rubber Mulisha will cease all operations of the somewhat shortlived franchise. "We had many factors holding us back from continuing onto next season, but winning was not one of them" Goldstein said, "Although the tradition here may have been short, I still believe we created a dynasty of champions." The Mulisha won a total of 38 tournaments over the past 4 seasons accumulating 140 match wins and only 11 losses. Thebanners will continue to hang at The Compound, the Rubber Mulisha's previous mainstay, as a memory of their winning tradition that brought pride and hope to a great city.
Although the Mulisha is now disbanded, with most players moving on to the next chapters of their lives, one player will still continue on in the game and keep his career alive. Jordan"The Guardian" Faas will be signing with Los Angeles on a 2 yr contract. As per club regulation, details of this contract were not disclosed. Faas is one of the premier role players in the entire sport with a career 257 kills and 38 catches with an average +/- of 15. "He protected us skill players very well. I was able to not have to think about anything besides throwing heat and making the kills happen every game because I knew he was right there protecting me" said 3 time League MVP Jerry Byrne. Jerry will now be serving his country in the US Navy. "I'm really happy to have been a part of such a dynasty with such an army on my side" said Faas, "those are memories and men I shall never forget."
THE MULISHA WERE IN MONTREAL THIS PAST WEEKEND FOR THE WDBA NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. TOURNAMENT HOSTED SOMEWHERE AROUND 205 TEAMS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE INCLUDING TEAMS FROM JAPAN, ENGLAND, IRELAND, GERMANY ARGENTINA, AUSTRIA AND PAKISTAN JUST TO NAME A FEW. THE TROOPS WENT INTO THE ELIMINATION ROUND SEEDED 3RD OUT OF THE REMAINING 30 TEAMS IN CONTENTION FOR MEDAL ROUND PLAY. "BIGGEST OBSTACLE FOR US WAS PLAYING GAME AFTER GAME AFTER GAME, THANK GOD FOR MOTRIN" SAID NEW TEAM CAPTAIN JORDAN FAAS. "WE HAD A VERY VERY GOOD SOLID SHOWING THOUGH, DEL WAS VERY ACCURATE, CHRISTIAN DIDNT BITCH ABOUT ANYTHING, JT DID A PHENOMONAL JOB OF MAKING THE PLAY HAPPEN, SO YA... WE WERE AMAZING THIS WEEKEND." THE TROOPS PLAYED 24 MATCHES(BEST OF FIVE SERIES) IN 1 1/2 DAYS AND ARE CURRENTLY SITTING PRETTY AS THEY ARE UNDEFEATED GOING INTO THE QUARTER FINALS. NEXT GAME IS AT 2PM GMT. THEN AGAIN AT 5PM WITH THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME (IF QUALIFIED) SCHEDULED FOR 8PM. MARTINEZ AND BYRNE ARE IN A DEAD LOCK FOR TOP KILLS IN THE TOURNAMENT EACH ACCUMILATING 110 KILLS THUS FAR. WISH THEM LUCK AND STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES!!!!!
Last weekend the Troops rolled up on new turf. Accompanied by LADBS players such as Costanza, Tillmans, Toth, Alongi, "The Animal",tim tim, and sum sum just to name a few, the Mulisha looked forward to a little change as they were split onto two different squads. Faas had the pleasure of playing on the same side of the court as Tillmans and Toth while Bernad and Byrne had the honor toplay with legendary Mike Costanza as well as Alongi and Benidetto. The tournament was filled with good competion as wll as some odd characters. The all female "Sitting Dux" "Team XTREME"
"Team Deegan" and the tournament hosts "Norris Pimps" were just a few. Team "Get sum sum" came out strong and were able to take second overall While Faas and Team "tim tim" were wedged out of theyre playoff spot by some very odd tournament seeding styles. When the day was done the hosting Norris Pimps came out on top.
For most, Oct 31st was a day full of hauntings, horror, candy and mischeif, but not for the Mulisha. They entered their first L.A.D.B.S open division tournament with the line up featuring a call up from the Mulishas AAA farm team, THE DGAF PIRATES in Redhawk, C.A Ryan "THE ROOK", as well as mulisha fifth man Steve Laster "The Master". The Mulisha opened up the tournament against "The Yankees of Dodgeball", the Cognac Attack. winning in traditional Mulisha fashion with Byrne aquiring 9 kills in the first best of three series. The troops had trouble overcoming the L.A.D.B.S veteran squad consisting of two 13 time all-stars Justin Hill and Eric "Bread Truck" Tillmans, along with 3 time Eastern Conference M.V.P Mike Alongi who handed The Mulisha their only loss in preliminery play. The troops
used their unorthodox strategy and firey gameplan to walk right into the #2 seed of the playoffs then right into the Championship Game. They met their only "nightmare" once again. "I remeber vividly breadtruck pointing at me in his realistically scary skeleton costume and gesturing that he was slicng my head off... (sob) and after that i was genuinley horrified." said Jordan Faas... "I still have dreams about it." That was when all Hell broke loose with Bread truck, Alongi, and Hill just making haste of the mulisha. "it was a blood bath... udder insanity, and i dont mean the Jenna Jameson film. Ok just picture the Holocaust, times that by about 25 notches and thats how bad we got owned." commented Team Captain Christian "Del Scorcho" Bernad. Overall the Mulisha finished 16-3 and took second.
The Mulisha went in to this weekends tournament hoping to do well with the complete Mulisha roster back together since their first tournament back in 2005. They won their first match. Even though The Mulisha's only loss was in their first match in game 2, they still were able to win every match in 2 games. The Jet seemed to show up to throw heat all day with pinpoint accuracy accumilating a total of 48 kills in the whole tournament. "this time those no sting balls didn't hurt us... PLAYINGWISE... we have adapted." said team captain Cdawg who decided if anyone was going to throw those balls it would be him. He racked up a total of 19 kills 17 of which were with the no sting balls. "Basicallsy all this tournament was for us was a way to get to the next level... we pretty much dominated" said Co-captain Jordan Faas. Faas racked up a tournament personal high 36 kills and 6 game winning kills. "I was bringin it... na but for real i was," he said. When it came time to come up big and step it up the Mulisha did just that. The tournament M.V.P. belonged to none other than Delfino "Latino Heat" Martinez. "oh my god, Del was throwing the nasty all day.It was seriously ridiculous" commented Bernad. All in All the Mulisha are looking to pick up a few new prospects in the upcoming J.C.D.B.L TO BE ABLE TO COMPETE IN THE OPEN DIVISION WITH UTTER DOMINATION.
